Nikki Nicholau
Director, Office on Volunteerism and Community Service
Nikki Nicholau serves as the Director of the Office of Volunteerism and Community Service (OVCS) in the Virginia Department of Social Services. The OVCS oversees the operations of Virginia’s AmeriCorps program and promotes national and community service as a means of helping communities address critical unmet needs in education, human services, environment and public safety. Working with the Governor’s Commission on Community and National Service, Virginia Corps, as well as faith and community organizations, OVCS promotes volunteerism and service throughout Virginia.
Ms. Nicholau came to the OVCS from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Service where she served as the Deputy Director for Housing. She has held managerial positions in both the public and private sectors. She has served on a number of community boards and was recognized as the Outstanding Woman of Greater Richmond in Human Relations by the YWCA in 1989.
