Virginia Corps explained

Virginia Corps is Governor Mark Warner’s new effort to capture the renewed spirit of volunteer service and community preparedness which has emerged since September 11, 2001. It serves as a central clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities across Virginia, linking citizens with a wide variety of volunteer efforts. Virginia Corps includes this Web site, a toll-free number — 1-866-239-4868 — and information about the more than 20 local volunteer centers across the state.

Virginia Corps also localizes the national homeland security and preparedness initiative known as Citizen Corps. Virginia’s Citizen Corps will help residents make their communities safer from emergencies and disasters by getting them involved in these preparedness efforts.

Through volunteerism and service, people across Virginia are helping to strengthen their neighborhoods, communities, state and nation.
