Through the Unified State Plan for Service the Commission invites the ideas and support of all Virginians committed to strengthening the Commonwealth’s service and civic sectors.

The Points of Light Foundation (POLF) and Volunteer Center National Network support volunteering nationwide. INDEPENDENT SECTOR (IS) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan coalition of more than 700 national organizations, foundations, and corporate philanthropy programs. Its mission is to promote, strengthen, and advance the nonprofit and philanthropic communities to foster private initiatives for the public good. The IS commissions periodic studies related to giving and volunteering in the United States, publishes the national annual dollar value of volunteer time, and holds an annual conference in sites across the country.
